Frightening Thoughts

I’m all 99 per cent certain, but only God can have 100 per cent certainty,” Gundars Berziņš on how sure he was that Latvian secret police was listening in on the former prime minister Aigars Kalvītis’s phone conversations.

Returning from Exile

Posted in Blog-Related on May 1st, 2008

RIGA - All About Latvia has returned after suffering from a vicious attack by a hacker who apparently broke into other small personal sites at the same time. I spent most of the proletarian holiday today trying to resurrect old posts, comments, and photos. And I’ve succeeded, as you can tell.

I’ve no idea who and why needed to hack into this small site with small authority. But what’s done is done. Thankfully, the database was untouched and I managed to easily recover it.

Thank you for all those who bothered enough to drop me a note. I appreciate it.

I’ll be spending part of this five-day weekend trying to piece the site back together. But for now, forgive this mess.

Introduction

Posted in Blog-Related on March 5th, 2003

Every day more and more people learn about a tiny country on the shores of the Baltic Sea called Latvia. This weblog seeks to inform the public about the current events in the country.

Ever since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Latvia sought to be a full member of New Europe. That is why it has been the Latvian government’s policy to become a member of the European Union. Latvia will have this chance in 2004 after Latvians will have their say in the national referendum in September 2003.
